Crash Victim's Family Wants Brandy's Phone Records

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Relatives of a woman who was killed in a car crash involving singer Brandy want to see the R&B star's cell phone records from the day of the crash.

According to court records obtained by CelebTV.com, the singer, Brandy Norwood, has failed to provide a consent form which is needed to obtain the records.

In the motion, the family of Awatef Aboudihaj claims Brandy "was driving with an unsafe speed and was inattentive, likely because she was using her cell phone at the time of the incident."

The CHP says the entertainer was driving her Range Rover on December 30, 2006, on Interstate 405 when cars ahead of her slowed. She failed to slow and hit the back of Aboudihaj's Honda at about 65 miles per hour.

Brandy was not charged with a crime.

New Cell Phone Laws Going Into Effect July 1st

Those of you who rarely use your cell phones while driving need not take too much notice of the following announcement (oh, and p.s.? Thanks for being better than other people). For those of you, however, who insist on multi-tasking throughout your driving experience, watch out: that phone call you're making while wending your way down the 101 might just get you pulled over and fined, fined, fined. The CHP just released a press announcement detailing the new regulations and fine schedules going into effect on July 1st: yes, hands-free devices will still be okay, but only for drivers over the age of 18. (Sorry kids!)

The new law allows police to pull you over just for using a hands-on cell phone while driving. The first offense will cost you $20, with $50 fines thereafter. Convictions will appear on your driving record, but will not add "points". Drivers over 18 can use hands-free devices like the Bluetooth.

Look Ma: No Hands

A national survey conducted by Omnibus in April 2003 found that nearly half of all Americans who own cellular phones sometimes use them while driving. And although three-quarters of those surveyed agreed that drivers should use a hands-free cell phone while on the road, most of those who use cell phones while driving said they never use a hands-free device.

CES 2008: Wireless Innovations for Portable Devices

Most of the buzz about wirelessness at the Consumer Electronics Show has been generated by products and technologies that seek to liberate HDTVs and other components that are usually connected by cables. But there have also been interesting announcements in traditionally unwired product categories. Here are three examples, from cameras, music players, and cellphones respectively.
